Squeaky Hinges

Squeaky Hinges

Squeaky Hinges

When I’m in Poland, I take a concept of “sitting at home” very seriously. And that means writing, reading, watching TV series, sitting by the fireplace and petting my cat, or a ladies-night with neighbours.
I shared this idyllic vision with a friend and heard that she didn’t like to sit at home, because “there is always something to do”. At work, spend every day on meetings, documents or make your hours, and is done. However, when you enter the house, you are immediately aware of how much more work you have there. There is always something to clean, a squeaky hinge, or somewhere under one of the furniture ominous lumps of dust.
I won’t fool anyone that my home doesn’t need cleaning. Of course, I have to face the challenge of maintenance and organization, because reading or writing in conditions unfavourable for life forms is not my way to boost creativity. I will not mention that if someone lives with you, they have their share of duties. Terabytes of texts have already been already written on this subject. Once, I just decided that at home I would feel good, I would gain energy and strength. I got rid of a lot of things I just didn’t like, thrown away old or broken appliances and it got better immediately. Then, I liked the squeaky hinges, because they are my lovely hinges, and they squeak because they are needed.

Nocturne at Tram Museum – Spooky way

It was well after dark and I have already started to get into Halloween spirit. Being in a spooky mood, I have visited the Tram Museum in Brussels.

Vehicles from a period that spans over a century, various accessories and objects have been a great scenery for a photographer with a soft spot for steampunk and vintage.

Here is a photo-story from my visit with my strong recommendation to see this special place. Put your spooky glasses on and enjoy!

No time for hair twirling?

No time for hair twirling?

No time for hair twirling?

Have you got always more to do, never enough time to do it, and no time to calm down?

If you do just one thing, spend just 15 minutes more, you will be finally able to relax, right?
This is not going to happen. Your to-do list will grow and you will feel like you could do more and better.
Having such feeling, and being stuck, is a sign that it is time to stop. Take a break and disconnect for a while. Let it be even 30 minutes, or one day if you are lucky. Sit down, twirl your hair a bit, and a solution to cut on tasks will come.

Devil is in details

Devil is in details

Devil is in details

The Devil is not so easy to understand. And the way the Devil approaches the details is rather quite interesting.

Recently, I took pictures of sculptures in the garden of Juan Soriano in a small town in Poland. The sculptures look great, but as a photographer I focused on their details. Images do not completely show how they look as a whole and this way quite different, surreal images were created.

In most cases, the Devil hides in nooks and crannies where unforeseen difficulties may arise. We want to do something, we plan something, and suddenly a seemingly small imp appears and creates big problems.

While taking photos, a thought crossed my mind that sometimes the opposite is true. The devil is tempting us to focus only on details. We look at a small fragment and let our imagination run wild. We build our own picture of the whole, which is usually far from reality.

For such photos, that’s very good. It’s pure pleasure to let your imagination run and think what might have been out of the picture. When assessing important life situations or people around us, this is probably not the best way. It is better to resist the Devil tempting us to focus on details, take a step back and see the whole.

Everything is possible!

Everything is possible!

Everything is possible!

I took on a new challenge – I directed a fashion show! But what impressed me most was the cooperation with a big group of friends, and each of us got involved voluntarily.

The idea was born after a photo shoot during which we used Inga Falkowska’s jewelry. In October Inga had her vernissage, and we decided to organize an additional attraction – a surprise, in the form of a fashion show.

Photos from the show are still being processed, so today I post some taken during our rehearsal.

Everything can be done! If are engaged, have an open head and empathy.

I noticed that today is Olivia Netwon Jones’ birthday, the actress who played the lead role in “Grease“, loved by millions musical filmed in 1978.

Happy Birthday!

However, on this occasion I got the idea that the message of this musical is probably not quite ok.

In short (spoiler alert!):

the story goes that a pair of students meet on vacation and fall in love. After summer it occurs that they go to the same school.

She is beautiful, modest and cute. But he, at school, is no longer that nice boy from the beach, but a school tough guy, a charismatic alpha male.
The beautiful Sandy (Olivia) is rejected by Danny (John), mainly because the alpha herd expects their leader’s girlfriend to be a sex bomb.

The happy finale comes only when Sandy turns into a confident, sex vamp.

It has changed a bit since 1978, as at least one can express such opinions. And the movie is still worth seeing, if only to be able to agree with my opinion!
