To get to where your happiness is, you need to know from where you’re leaving.

So according to the previous post, we are looking for the starting point, point A.

The first task will be to find out whether you are a person who enjoys pleasures, adventures and looks into the future, or rather likes traditions, security and the past.

This post is part of the Destination Delight series –

find out more!

Do you see yourself on the right or left at the following picture?
You probably can answer this question right away. For example, I know that I am definitely on the yellow side.

Do not judge

However, the topic is worth exploring. The point is not to categorize, nor to judge.

There are certainly many people who think that focusing on achieving pleasure is BAD and stable approach, following a path full of sacrifices to a glorious goal is GOOD.

I do not support such a view.

Besides, we have, as usual in life, two extremes, and hardly anyone is 100% hedonist or 100% ascetic.

That’s why the picture shows that the border between the sides is fluid.

Assessing yourself may depend on you current mood. Maybe you have a series of bad days and it is worth postponing deep reflections for later?

Let us focus on hedonistic side of your soul.

Hedonism, in short, is an approach according to which the main goal of life is to experience the maximum amount of pleasure at any given time.

So we have here spontaneous  parties, shopping, striving to make every moment pleasant. Asceticism is the opposite of hedonism, that is, we have sacrifice in the name of greater good and moderation.

Is hedonism good or bad? Of course, this attitude has both sides.

In general, the pursuit of pleasure is consistent with our nature and promotes health. It makes us feel satisfied with life because we have more positive than negative experiences. We make contacts more often and easier, and we deal with stress better.

On the other hand, when it turns out that you can not keep up the pace and you can go to extremes and put yourself at a higher risk. This may include stimulants, dangerous acquaintances, and in the extreme case maybe an addiction.

Quizz

Here is a short quizz that will allow you to check your current position on the hedonism scale.

HOWEVER, before proceeding, take into account that:

– It will be the result of “here and now” and it is worth repeating this quiz (I have prepared for this purpose a very useful  the Destination Delight Itinerary (free download and printing)

– You can do the quiz quickly, and then think about the questions and try again

– You can do the test yourself, and then ask someone who knows you well to fill it for you – it can be very interesting to find out how others perceive you.

To get to where your happiness is, you need to know from where you’re leaving.

Achieving goals – being not that SMART

Set a goal and achieve it, be hard, or be condemned.  You set yourself a specific goal and tell yourself that unless you lose weight, you will not be happy, healthy, rich, etc.
So what to do? Do not lose weight? Yes, but in a slightly different way.

Angels & Demons

Angels & Demons 27August, 2019Aleksandra Rowicka I have promised a method by which you will get to know yourself and find out what will bring you happiness - with an underlined "You". Very specific way how to get to know and understand yourself. Find out what you...

From A to B – where your happiness is

All you have to do is to set a plan step by step, what you will do to move from the current situation, more or less happy, to a place where we you feel better, stronger, have more energy and take full advantage of life.
